This summer, de Volkskrant invited illustrators to interpret the theme "A world as fickle as the weather" in their own way.

I was assigned the colour red, which immediately made me think of wildfires and extreme heat; global warming.

A huge, burning sun looms above us, but we keep looking away, choosing to consume more and build more instead of taking real action.
